Jealousy Leads to Brutal Murder of Young Girl

Published on

Giorgi Mchedlishvili killed Gvantsa Kiladze in the city of Rustavi on May 17, 2015. The young woman had 14 wounds in her throat and chest and died in an apartment at 14 Friendship Avenue.

Mchedlishvili rented the apartment two months earlier. Both were 23 and had been classmates.

Neighbors say they did not know him well, but they never heard any noise coming out of the apartment. They say they rarely saw the victim and did not notice anything unusual before the murder.

Giorgi Natroshvili, one of the neighbors, remembers the day of the murder: “I was in the yard with my friend. It was calm and nobody heard anything. The boy had rented a new apartment and there he cut his girlfriend’s throat. Gvantsa’s friend came to visit them and found her body; she was lying in her blood.

"Later, we were told that police officers found him a few kilometers away from the apartment, near the Red Bridge. He had wounds. He was hospitalized, and we have not heard anything more since then.”

Kiladze graduated from School 20 in Rustavi. She lived with her parents and brother. Neighbors recall her as a very beautiful, beloved girl, a positive person.

“Gvantsa Kiladze was my mother’s goddaughter," said Zviad Morgoshia. "Talking about her murder and that she is not alive, is very difficult for me. Gvantsa and her family went to Russia to live and we had not seen each other for years.

"When she returned, we met. Poor Gvantsa was a very kind girl, full of life. The guy loved her, but Gvantsa was not interested in him; they were just classmates. As we learned, he was often jealous of Gvantsa and one day on the basis of jealousy Mchedlishvili killed her.

"What kind of love is that!”

Morgoshia was shocked by the violent killing: “No one could imagine that such a thing would happen to her," he said. "Gvantsa’s killer was arrested and is serving his sentence for such a brutal murder.”

Ministry of Internal Affairs officers detained the suspect several hours later about three kilometers from the murder scene. After killing her, he stabbed himself in his chest and neck. His condition was serious and he was transferred to Rustavi Republic Hospital for surgery.

The convict was detained under Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies intentional murder.
